Getting Ready for Tax Season with Kaison

beginner 7 min read

How to use the Tax Center to organize everything your CPA needs.

Step 1 of 4

Start in October, Not April

Tax season stress comes from procrastination, not complexity. In October, open the Tax Center and check your readiness score. You'll see what's categorized, what's missing receipts, and what documents you still need.

Go to Tax Center → Dashboard. Check your readiness score.

Step 2 of 4

Categorize Your Expenses

Every expense in Kaison can be tagged with a Schedule E line item. That plumbing repair? Line 14 (Repairs). The property management fee? Line 11 (Management Fees). Your mileage to the property? Line 6 (Auto and Travel). When everything is categorized, your CPA's job takes hours instead of days — and their bill reflects it.

Go to Tax Center → Categorize. Tag every uncategorized expense.

Step 3 of 4

Check the Document Checklist

The Tax Center shows a per-property checklist of required documents. Missing your 1098 (mortgage interest statement)? It'll flag it. Haven't uploaded the settlement statement? It'll flag that too.

Tax Center → Document Checklist. Upload anything missing.

Step 4 of 4

Generate the CPA Report

When everything is green, export the CPA report. It's a structured summary organized by Schedule E line items, with depreciation schedules, mileage totals, and a document inventory. Hand it to your CPA and watch them smile.
